Beginning with the screening of Habiter ensemble et séparément / Living Together and Apart, a 26-minute documentary by French director Florence Mary. Explore the heart of a suburban residential street in Romainville, France, where a group of people discuss their collective life project where the human and communal dimension plays a central role.
Over four years, this ambitious 6-houshold development brought together novices and experienced participants, navigating the complexities of cohabitation in order to shape a shared framework for living together. Between communal space and individual dwelling, the site gradually became a small village, while also raising a fundamental question: to what extent was the group’s capacity to anticipate the challenges of such a loosely structured collective truly considered?
A panel discussion will follow, bringing together local voices from across housing, planning, and design. Expanding on the films core questions in the New Zealand context. As well as the fundamental question, how do we live together? Can shared living become a meaningful model for future generations?
Guests are invited to stay afterwards for nibbles and drinks.
