The indefatigable Mr. Walker

Yes, brought to you by Home NZ and us – following fast on the footsteps of Sharon Jansen – is Roger Walker, architect, Ferrari owner, and tv showman, coming to a Cafe L’Affare near you.

Enfant Terrible of NZ 1970s architecture (and some might say of the 2000s too!), Walker is the subject of Gerald Melling’s Positively Architecture, and numerous articles.  But that was back then.  The energetic wee elf – advocate of a good bottle of pinot – has designed the (now deceased) Wellington Club, a shopping centre in New Plymouth, a winery in Martinborough, the delightful circulation spaces of Sirocco Apartments, (and Century City Ho …), and threatens Cuba Street with a mall of controversial proportions and twirly bits.

Always keen for stretching the discipline of architecture, testing the limits of materials, city council officers, and architectural sociability, Roger’s wit, intellect and honestly will mean this night will be a lecture not to miss.

Thursday 8th October, 2009, 6pm, College St, Cafe L’Affare, Te Aro …
