Weltec BDes – Going out with a BANG

After 20 successful years, Wellington’s original Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) program, delivered first through CIT and more recently Weltec, is rolling up.

The 2010 graduating year of students would love for members of the Wellington Architectural Centre to come and celebrate their “Practical Completion”  with an exhibition @ 39 Dixon Street. Opening on Friday 5th of November, the exhibition will be open to the public the following week, till the 10th.

The Rock – Preview

This week the Wellington Airport took the bold step of inviting a number of architects and property people to have a preview of The Rock, prior to its official opening next week. The preview was not only the first chance for us to look around the building but, as the hoardings had only just been taken down the day before, was a first viewing for much of the project team.

The subject of much media debate, the external appearance of The Rock has been unfolding for some time. As the airport further develops its plans, the view on arrival will make this part of the building, more and more obvious, acting as a billboard of the company’s architectural intent to make this airport stand out from the normal conservative architecture of airports around the world. Manchester, Christchurch

The earthquake that happened in Christchurch just over a month ago now is claiming its first tall victim. While the country is ecstatic that the series of quakes has caused no deaths to Cantabrians, there is a pretty gloomy feeling amongst certain lovers of modern heritage buildings that time is nearly up for the Manchester Courts building – formerly known as the Express building.
