Cake tin
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011Wellington’s famous “Cake Tin”, sometimes also known by the name of the Westpac Stadium, is getting a new skin. Very quietly, and rather quickly, every single panel of external cladding is being replaced on the tin, as pictured here. Thanks for the photo Nick !

Can you spot which panels are new, and which are old? Can anyone shed some light on why the ‘old’ panels are being replaced, when they are only 10 years old and look just the same as the new ones?

The rumour I have heard is the fixings are being replaced due to failure. I suspect the existing panels, rather than being replaced with new, are simply being reinstalled.
